Alternate Routes
Road Closure & Detour
The closure shown below on 2100 North between Pointe Meadows Drive and 2300 West is now in effect. Due to reprioritized construction phasing, the closures at 1200 West and the resrictions at the park & ride have been postponed.

Most traffic impacts will be limited to the residential and business areas surrounding 2100 North, just west of I-15. As the construction planning takes shape and these impacts are identified, detour information and route maps will be posted here.
Business Re-Routes
Continued access to your business, place of employment or favorite shopping area is a priority for UDOT. Once construction starts, the best alternative routes will be posted here.
UDOT has also created a resource tool for businesses known as "Partners for the Road Ahead." This guide provides information specifically for business owners to use during road construction projects.
A few of the tips from the guide:
- Stay informed about the project - This will help you know what changes are coming so you can plan your promotional strategies accordingly.
- Think "outside the box" - The challenges of road construction will require you to anticipate possible impacts and develop creative solutions to mitigate them.
- Work with neighboring businesses - By working together and pooling resources you are able to do more.
- Inform your patrons and employees - UDOT is committed to keeping you informed and access open. You will be responsible to pass the word on.
- Make construction work for you - Offering construction promotions can be one way to help patrons return again and again.
- Stay positive - Road construction is temporary and by keeping a positive outlook you will be better able to work with the construction impacts and keep your customers coming back.
Transportation Options
- TravelWise: Traveling in a construction zone can be challenging. UDOT has created a program called TravelWise, a set of strategies and tactics that will help ease the construction challenge. Many TravelWise strategies are easy to implement and will help you carry on with your life without sacrificing efficiency, productivity or even money. And hey, you'll be doing us all a service by helping to reduce energy consumption, improve air quality and reduce traffic. For more information visit, www.travelwise.utah.gov.
- Public Transit: Public transportation is a great alternative to navigating through construction areas. For light rail and bus maps, schedules and other information about public transportation, please visit www.rideuta.com
- Bikes and Trails: Get out and be active! Take advantage of the many bike paths and trails in your community. For more information please visit: http://stateparks.utah.gov/trails
Safety Information
What to Expect: While construction is underway, you should expect to see or experience some of the following (click on the items for more information):
-
Orange Barrels, Signs & Temporary Fencing
These are important because they indicate where the construction zone is. Staying outside of these boundaries will help keep you safe. -
Heavy Equipment
Construction crews will use a variety of heavy equipment from track hoes, graders and dump trucks to cranes and paving machines. Give them plenty of space. A good rule-of-thumb to stay safe around construction equipment: If you can't see the driver's eyes, the driver can't see you either! So be careful! -
Travel Delays
It's a balancing act - building new roads and bridges and keeping traffic flowing smoothly. Give yourself extra time and space between you and the car in front of you. The construction may be inconvenient for now, but in the end it will be worth it. -
Noise & Dust
All the construction equipment makes noise, some more than others. Please expect some noise. There will also be some dust in the air, especially near areas where bridges are being built. We will do all we can to minimize the noise and keep the project clean and clear of dust and debris. -
Utility Work
Communication lines, water, gas and sewer lines are typically in place around roadways. Crews dig deep trenches so use extra caution. And there may occasionally be service disruptions - planned and unplanned. We'll do our best to give you as much advance notice as we possibly can.
You Can Help!: UDOT and its contractors are doing what they can to build the project as quickly and safely as possible—and you can help. As you drive through the project, please:
- Slow down and drive the posted speed limit
- Plan ahead by giving yourself extra travel time
- Use an alternate route when possible
- Keep a safe distance between you and the vehicle in front of you
- Stay calm if you are delayed
- Minimize distractions (cell phone, eating, text messaging, etc...)
- Pay close attention to occasional changes in the project routes and detours
- Obey flaggers and construction signs
Child Safety: Please keep a close eye on children near the construction area. Encourage your children to avoid playing near the work zone, especially where trenches or heavy equipment are present.
UDOT has a number of materials available to help educate the public, residents, children and schools about being safe in a construction zone. Materials include safety posters; newsletters; memos to parents; and presentation materials suitable for school children, parents and faculty members.
